Katy Shumbo

Katy joined A Step Ahead Physical Therapy in 2024 and has been a physical therapist since graduating from Emory University with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2018. She completed her orthopedic residency and went on to obtain her orthopedic specialty certification (OCS) in 2019. 

 

Katy received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Quinnipiac University in 2015. While attending Quinnipiac University, she was a member of the Track and Field team, specializing in the 800m and 1500m distances. Katy also worked closely as a student athletic trainer with the Quinnipiac men's basketball team, men's lacrosse team, acrobatics and tumbling team and had internships with Division 1 football programs including The University of Maryland and UMASS Amherst.

As a PT, Katy enjoys working with youth athletes, runners, and generally active older adults. She enjoys treating an array of orthopedic conditions and TMJ disorders.

Katy was born and raised in Rhode Island and has resided in GA since 2015 when she moved for PT school. She currently resides in Canton, GA with her husband, son, and dog. In her free time, Katy enjoys running, biking, hiking, reading, and watching UGA football.
