You Have a Choice: No Referral Needed!
Direct Access Expands in Georgia beginning July 1st, 2015.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed legislation that significantly modernizes the Georgia physical therapy practice act. Brad Freemyer of A Step Ahead Physical Therapy along with many other dedicated physical therapists were instrumental in lobbying to make this dream a reality! Now you can make decisions as an informed consumerof medical services about whether to pursue physical therapy. While we continue to support our trusted physicians and medical service providers to advise our clients, we are so excited to see our physical therapists recognized as experts in regard to initially managing musculoskeletal and movement disorders in our patients. A physical therapist is a highly trained, licensed professional that can help reduce pain and improve or restore mobility. They perform in-depth assessments and evaluations to develop a treatment plan and goals for their patients' impairments. PT's are educated and trained to treat patients from birth to mature adults. Direct access refers to the ability of patients, to be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without being referred by a doctor or other healthcare practitioner. If you feel you have a problem that may benefit from the skilled services of a physical therapist, you can refer yourself to physical therapy for treatment.
The new law becomes effective July 1, 2015. All of the therapists at A Step Ahead Physical Therapy meet the education and experience requirements of the new law. With these new guidelines in place, YOU get to make this important decision about your health care. Call us today for more information or to schedule your first visit.
